If you are following along with my podcast 101 post for #write31days it's because you either already have a podcast, or you are thinking about starting one. I'm super excited for both options.
If you already have a show I want to hear about. So I'm begging you to please tell me all about in the comments section of this post. I want to cheer you on and I'm excited for your journey.
If you are thinking about starting a show, this post is for you. I'm going to tell you why I think you should start a show. I know that you probably have a long list of fears and questions, but this post is just going to be why I think you should step out and do something you have been dreaming about.
YES it will be hard.
YES you will make mistakes.
YES you will alter your course.
But you can do this. You can podcast. Here are my reasons for you:
THERE IS ENOUGH ROOM FOR US ALL.
If you think there are already too many podcasts in the world, you are wrong. One article I recently read says that there are 100x more people listening to podcasts then there are actual shows. Although podcasting has been around for a while, it's a new medium that people are just now catching on to. I still meet people every single day that have no clue what I am talking about when I share that I'm a podcaster.
YOUR VOICE MATTERS
You might be thinking that the show you want to make already exists, and what I have to say about that is that you are wrong. A show you like may exists, but your voice doesn't exist. If no one every wrote another cookbook about desserts because there already was one written then we would all be at a loss because of all the great recipes that we didn't have. Even more than that what if no one ever wrote a chocolate cake recipe because there already was one. Do you know how much we would miss out on.
There may be a show out there that is like the show you want to make, but it's not you and it's not your voice. Your voice matters.
YOUR AUDIENCE WILL GROW
There is a whole new world of listeners out there that aren't readers. You may have a steady flow of blog readers, but when you podcast your level of reach will expand more than you even thought was possible. You will gain an audience you had never tapped in to and will be able to share your story, thoughts, ideas, encouragements with even more people than before.
PEOPLE GET TO KNOW YOU
Your audience will love the intimacy that they feel with you through this medium. They will hear your voice when they hear your thoughts and your message. You will connect with your people more than you ever have before. It's a great way to connect with your people better and more deeply than just through your written words.
There you go, four super simple reasons why I think you should podcast. If you have been thinking about it, what will it hurt? Jump in this fun arena with us. Let's all help each other out and learn from one another as we journey into the unknown of podcaster world!!

Jamie! I took your Influence Network class and I am so glad to see you are doing this series. I do have a podcast! It’s called “Uniquely Woman” and we’re 10 episodes in. I love this format but it’s definitely taking some getting used to. I’m currently switching hosting over to libsyn and looking for a mic! Can’t wait to read the rest of your series!
So encouraging!
Levi and I started a horror movie review podcast last year called The Poltercast! Then I started grad school and so we took a very long break- but we just recorded a new episode last weekend and are hoping to put it up soon 🙂 It’s a fun thing to do together that’s a little unique!
I don’t have a podcast, but I do have a blog and my husband, who is a videographer, has made some videos of me for it a few times. Its something different and I feel nervous every time I do one, but this is encouraging for me in that area. I feel like the response people have to the videos is so good for the same reasons you said above- they get to hear my voice in a different way than just reading my blog. This was good encouragement for me to keep going even though it feels a little awkward and hard at times. Thanks!
I found out about you because I’m going to Allume this week! And you can bet I’ve already decided to come to your podcasting workshop! Can’t wait! Thanks for this series!
I’ve been binging podcast episodes lately, and I have been toying with the idea of starting one. This was just the encouragement I needed to get this in motion. Thank you! I’m looking forward to following you along on this Podcasting 101 series.
Thanks to your workshop, I’m moving forward with my dream of starting a podcast. I’ve been listening to podcasts for over ten years now and never thought I could do it. Thank you!
I enjoyed reading the posts in your 31 series. I am new to blogging and probably ought to just focus on that… but I’m so excited about a podcast idea I have. My blog is about family faith-building, and I have an idea to put together a podcast for families to listen to together as a family devotion. There would be a Bible story, discussion questions (with some time to talk about them), maybe even music if I could figure out how to do that with copyrighted music. So we’ll see where it goes!
