Many of you have emailed, called & sent us texts all asking the same thing. How can I help? What can I do? As much as we all wish we could jump on a plane and go help, for most of us that is just not a reality. There are fabulous ministries that are set up there already, so let's do all we can to help and support them as they serve the people there that they live with day to day.
Here are people we suggest you support:
REAL HOPE FOR HAITI: These are fabulous people who run a rescue center and clinic, also our son lives here. Last I heard two trucks had pulled up full of injured people needing help. I have heard that their biggest need is money to buy food. Already food has doubled and this is going to cause a big problem all over Haiti. RHFH has a paypal button that you can donate to (click HERE & scroll to bottom of page), or you can mail a check to: RHFH – PO BOX 23 – Elwood, IN 46036. Please follow Licia & Lori's blogs to stay up to date.
COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL: We trust and love Compassion and feel that they will also use your money to the best of their ability if you chose to give to the disaster relief fund. We still have no idea whether our sponsored child, Wonsli, is okay. I think of him and his family and what they must be going through right now. I'm praying for the Compassion projects as they begin to help families rebuild their lives. For a $35 donation you can help a family receive every sort of disaster relief they might need in this first critical week. If you have a Compassion child in any country, and especially Haiti, I ask that you consider this.
We have other friends in PAP that work with Heartline and World Wide Village. When I hear their needs and how they are handling it all I'll let you know. I've also read that World Vision is on the ground helping as well as the Red Cross. Also Makarios in the Dominican is sending a team over w/ medical supplies. They could use your funds to help purchase supplies and get them across the border. Please pick an organization that you love and support and donate. They will ALL need our help in this next couple of days, weeks, months & years.
My brother-in-law created a design for a t-shirt last night and we're in the works of getting it online for you to order. I'll have a picture of it this afternoon and can direct you to where to go to order them. If you would like to order a large amount to sell at your church, shop, restaurant, school etc, email me and I'll hook you up with how to do that. All the proceeds from this shirt will go to organizations in Haiti.
Please continue to pray for this little guy as he's away from his family through all of this:
Jamie…thanks for this information! Praying for you and yours, and for all involved with Haiti.
Danielle
MAT is trying to put together a medical team if you know anyone please get the word out! HUGS
Jamie, you don’t really know me but I worked for Student Life Camp this summer and Aaron lead worship at one of the camps I was at (Covenant College). Tears are streaming down my face as I read your blog and see the picture of Amos. When I first heard about the earthquake you guys are one of the first people I thought of. I will continue to be in prayer for you and your family as the child you love is away from you in this hard time. Blessings.
Jamie,
Can I forward this blog entry onto some people?
I work in PR and I know that Andrea Ball at the Austin American-Statesman is looking to post organizations/aid places on her blog. Would you mind if I sent her the organizations you list here?
Praying for Haiti and Amos.
Jennie (just a blog reader!)
Can’t wait to get some shirts. And posted this on my FB too 😉
Jamie,
I can’t figure out how to create a link in my blog to this post. May I copy and paste what you wrote about the organizations and how to donate into my blog? I will of course give you credit for writing it.
Alice
Wanted to let you know that you and your family are being prayed for all the way up here in Montana. I have followed your blog for awhile but never really commented. When I heard the news Amos was my very first thought. Praise God he is safe! You will be in our continued prayers as will all of Haiti. <3
I have lurked on your website and followed your adoption story. Your family was the first one I thought of in the aftermath of such devastation. Praying for your family and your little one in Haiti!
Hey Jamie,
Jeff and I were talking tonight- and wondering…just wondering if there is any way some of the kids could be brought to the US for foster care?? We saw on CNN or FOX the story about the two sisters in Penn. that run an orphanage in Haiti- and got permission today to fly 150 kids to Pittsburgh. I would be willing to talk to the Deputy Director of AR DHS to see what we could do. Just wondered if you have any idea if that would even be a possibility.
Following your blog- and praying constantly for Haiti- and Amos.
Love and blessings,
Christie Erwin 🙂
