WHAT YOU WILL HEAR

My guest for The Happy Hour #315 is Amy Julia Becker. Amy Julia is an award-winning writer and speaker on faith, family, disability, and privilege. She is the author of four books, including White Picket Fences: Turning Towards Love in a World Divided by Privilege.

Friends, Amy Julia is such an advocate for social justice and it was truly a joy getting to chat with her. In today’s episode, we talk about everything from fighting a culture of individualism to making marriage more than a business relationship. Amy Julia also dives into her experience as a mother to a child with down syndrome, and how it really opened her eyes to the privilege she has had in her life. She talks about the ways that it flipped her perspective of privilege. Rather than inviting others to be like her, she wants to create a space where we can recognize the beauty and value of our differences as something to learn from one another. I love when she says, “The harm of privilege is that it’s a harm for everyone that we divide ourselves.” I could not have said it better myself. I’m so thankful for Amy Julia’s passion for inclusion and reminding us that we are Christ’s beloved, no matter what we achieve. Make sure to pick up a copy of her book White Picket Fences, and other resources available on her website!
