Today’s guest on the Happy Hour Podcast is my friend Tara Livesay. Tara lives in Haiti with her husband, Troy, and five of their seven kids. They have been living in Haiti for many years now and she works with Heartline Ministries and is a midwife. They average about 6-8 births a month at Heartline, and invest in the mom's lives from the beginning of pregnancy, during labor, and for post pregnancy support.
On this episode Tara and I discuss a lot about parenting. She's currently mom to seven that range from the age of 7 to early twenties. We also discussed short term missions and what that looks like to us Americans versus the Haitians. She gives us all great advice on how we serve the Haitian people in a healthy way.
FROM THE PODCAST:
- Our kids lived at Real Hope for Haiti while we were waiting for them to come home
- Her grandson was born this October 11, and this brought her to Texas for five weeks to spend time with her kids. When we recorded this she was in Texas still, and is now back in Haiti with her family.
- “The most helpful things are things that include relationships” – love those ideas on helping people around the world.
- 200,000 people a year visit Haiti from North America
- Their Halloween excitement many years ago:
Then there's the Wade family over Halloween that we discussed on the podcast:

The Reveille is an instrumental music project from Austin Stone Worship. From our times in study of Scripture, we write and record music inspired from God’s Word to help aid and focus listeners during their personal times of communion with God through Scripture and prayer. The Reveille, Vol II was released everywhere digitally on November 4, 2014. Kyle Lent and David Wiley spent a year reading, studying, and meditating on the “servant songs” found in the book of Isaiah.
I have five copies of the The Reveille, Vol. II from the Austin Stone to give to five of you lucky peeps! All you need to do is leave a comment on this post about anything, and I'll pick a winner sometime on December 2nd. This CD makes a great teacher gift, or stocking stuffer for your loved ones. Perfect to listen to while reading your bible, or studying.

Thank you for your posts. As a mom of three’ they help keep me grounded all the while encouraging me in my faith (and my mommyhood!) thank you and keep up the awesome work god is doing through you!!
I have been following the Livesay blog for years and think that their work in Haiti is so interesting! Tara writes so well about their family and ministry. What a blessing! Congrats to the family on the birth of their first grandchild.
I’m definitely listening to this during Thanksgiving prep today!
The only thing that we missed and censored was the fact that Aaron actually said to Troy, “Dude, Can I tell you something? I just sharted in my pants.” I wasn’t sure swears were allowed so I kept my mouth in strict order. Thanks for having me Jamie. Happy Thanksgiving to the Ivey Clan, much love from the island. XOXO
True Tara! What a funny story! Troy and Aaron forever bonded over that one! Thanks for joining me and sharing your life with all of us! Love you all!
I really enjoyed this podcast…as I always do! It was the perfect distraction, as I was re-painting my kids’ bathroom. 🙂 I enjoyed hearing you ladies discuss some of the downfalls of short-term missionary work. I completely agree that relationships are key in any type of work that we do. Have a happy Thanksgiving!!
Thanks for doing so many give aways Jamie. You are a conduit of blessings.
I love that God has given us music to use in our worship and communion with Him. What an awesome idea for a CD.
I’m excited to listen to the podcast with Tara, soon. I follow her blog and am always so inspired by her midwifing ways! Love what they’re doing in Haiti!
I love the Stone’s worship albums and your blog. So inspirational!
So exciting you’re giving away this worship CD! My husband would love it for Christmas!
And so would I 🙂
Love you, your blog, and your podcast so much!!!
I’m an attendee of the Austin Stone and I’m so thankful for your family’s role in our church. Would love the cd to listen to as my roommates and I go through the new Advent Devotional together!
Even if I don’t win, I’ll probably buy this. Thankful for churches that encourage the arts!
