91-01

My guest for Happy Hour #90 is the Meg Duerksen. Meg is the mom of five big kids and wife to Craig of 21 years. She has found great joy in the role of preparing a space for women to enjoy time away for rest, refreshment and inspiration at The Craft House.  She offers weekend getaways, “camp” for grown ups and the house can also be used for group getaways on your own. She blogs, photographs, creates, cooks, sews, thrifts, paints, chauffeurs, reads, bakes and goes to a million basketball, football, softball and volleyball games every year. And most recently she discovered that being a mom to teenagers is much more fun than she thought it would be!

On the show, Meg shares how the Craft House and all the going-ons there started. She claims that most everyone can create the kinds of crafts she offers. Although, she hasn't seen my homemade earrings. So, most of you would probably thrive at the Craft House. I'll probably go there to have someone practice painting on my toes while I read a book.

I loved talking to Meg about parenting. She's just a few stages ahead of us at the Ivey house and it's refreshing to hear her talk about the decisions – good and bad – that she and her husband made, and how they have resolved to learn from them, not beat themselves up for doing the best they knew how, and to let it go.

Lastly, Meg and I share an enthusiasm for vacations with no kids – even if it's just a single night away. Meg and her husband didn't take many nights away in their first 10 years of marriage, but have made it a rhythm in their marriage now. I loved talking to her about how much our marriages benefit from that time.

Meg is super easy to listen to, and I just know you're going to love getting to know her. And if you love crafting, go ahead and plan a trip to Newton. I hear it's beautiful this time of year.

{You can listen to the show HERE. And of course, I would love if you would share with your friends. Just use the FB & Twitter links at the end of this post!}
