My guest for Happy Hour #86 is Molly Huggins. Molly is a Christ follower, 14-year veteran of the Army National Guard, ex-helicopter pilot, and stay at home mom to four babes. She has lived the Army life in some form since the age of 18, deploying in support of the War on Terror in between trekking across North America as an Army wife. She is a storyteller at heart, sharing on her stories on her blog.
Molly and I met on an airplane on our way to Allume last Fall. I was so captivated by her story, that I knew I had to have her on the show. In our conversation, Molly shares her story of growing up in a military family, meeting her husband in flight school, losing her best friend in a helicopter crash and being deployed with a baby at home.
I don't have any military connections, so I thought her story was so fascinating and heart breaking, but was so encouraged to hear how her faith had helped to carry her through all of her highs and lows. I think you'll enjoy hearing her story, even if it feels so different from your own.
{You can listen to the show HERE. And of course, I would love if you would share with your friends. Just use the FB & Twitter links at the end of this post!}

As the wife of an Army helicopter pilot, I LOVED this interview! It was fun to hear references to Fort Rucker, where I moved the day after my July 4 wedding and 6 days before my husband took the controls of a helicopter for the first time. Thank you for your respectful questions about military life, and highlighting a brave and dedicated female veteran! Molly, women like you make me realize that I CAN handle this Army Wife thing, even when it feels like the hardest thing I’ve ever done. You all inspired me today!
This was such a unique episode. I love each episode but this one just gave me a courage and confidence in God’s sovereignty in my and my husband’s life. I am such a fearful person and just hearing Molly’s obedience in faith was just what God wanted me to hear today. Thanks as always for such a perfect podcast <3
Oh Jessica that makes me so glad! You can do this, I promise. Hard, but good. And yay for helicopter pilots! I love being able to support my fellow military wives. You all have such a special place in my heart!
This was one of my favorite episodes. Thanks Molly for being so transparent and Jamie, you asked all the questions I would have asked. I feel so encouraged and a great way to end the week.
Loved the podcast with Molly Huggins. I’m touched deeply!

I just listened to your podcast for the first time today. I loved this episode so much! When you talked about God having a plan and knowing your kids were in his plans it touched my heart deeply. We are parents of five kids-two bio three born in our heart through adoption . There are so many hard parts and deep issues that we deal with that I have often worried how it affects the other kids. When you said that he already knew the plan with all our kids it made me cry. So true and I too have never in all these years heard anyone say that!! Thank you!
This has been one of my favorite Happy Hour podcasts!! So interesting. I learned so much and have so much respect and appreciation for Molly and all our veterans and their families. Thank you!!
Jamie, you have to read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks! It is fantastic and ethically challenging. Thanks for sharing Molly’s story with us. Such a strong lady!
I’ve been catching up on podcasts so I just listened to the podcast with Molly Huggins today. I absolutely loved this episode because I saw a lot of our own story in hers. We are a Navy family rather than Army. We were both active duty when we married (which our anniversary is a year and a day after Molly’s so that was an interesting connection). I decided to transfer to the reserves in 2012 in order to spend more time with my daughter and be able to grow our family. I definitely understand the tensions (we now have three kids and one on the way) and moving – we’ve moved four times in the last four years and are finally steady for a couple of years. Thank you again for sharing Molly’s story.
