My guest for Happy Hour #77 is Retha Nichole. Oh, I had so many things I wanted to talk about with Retha, and our conversation could have literally gone on for hours. But, in this episode, you'll hear Retha's heart-wrenching story about being a newlywed when her husband suddenly slipped into a coma, ultimately dying nearly two years later. Her story has a twist that I wasn't expecting, and adds so much more depth to an already impossible situation. In our conversation, she shared a detail of her story that she had never shared publicly before, and it left both of us nearly speechless. Though the suffering that you and I have experienced – or will experience – may not look exactly like Retha's, I think her wisdom in coping and grace and forgiveness is so valuable. I just think you'll love hearing her story.
{You can listen to the show HERE. And of course, I would love if you would share with your friends. Just use the FB & Twitter links at the end of this post!}

Pine Cove
It's still winter(ish), but now is the time to be thinking about your summer plans and you must consider Pine Cove camps! Here’s why camp ministry is awesome: your kids get a whole week away from technology to be out in God’s creation, they get to be pushed out of their comfort zone with fun activities like high ropes courses, zip lines, and horseback riding. Pine Cove scours the nation for the most excellent, intentional, Jesus-loving college students to invest in your kids for a week as their counselors. We’ve sent our kids to Pine Cove for years now, and they always come back with so many stories of what they learned about the Bible and how they felt so loved by the staff. Pine Cove takes safety seriously, and as a mom myself I trust them completely with my kids. You can find out more information about Pine Cove on their website at pinecove.com.

Jamie – I’m so enjoying listening to the Happy Hour podcast!! Hearing Retha’s story this week and her saying she wanted to know the WHY behind her tragedy reminded me I wanted to share some information about a possible guest for your show – Sherri Burgess. I don’t know Sherri personally, but her husband, Rick, is a co-host on very popular (Christ-centered) Birmingham morning radio show, The Rick & Bubba Show. I’ve listened to the radio show for about 15 years, and they make you feel like family. So it was devastating, when 7 years ago Rick and Sherri’s two-year old son, Bronner drowned in the family pool.
Sherri has just recently released a book about their family’s experience titled, Bronner – A Journey to Understand. I’ve attached a link to the promo information regarding the book. Sherri is a mom/step-mom, Sunday School teacher, former news reporter, blogger, and now author. Most importantly, she is a Christian committed to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Don’t know if you take suggestions for hosts or not – but I feel as if the Lord has been prompting me for several weeks now to share this information.

Keep up the great work!
Seriously Jamie! How do you always get the best speakers on here!? When are you going to have a boring Happy Hour :)?
P.S. GriefShare is an AWESOME group that is available all over the country to help people through the grieving process. It helped me soooo much. Greifshare.org has a search to see if there is a group in your area.
Hi Jamie,
I am probably not your typical age listener to your podcast. I am 59 and have a daughter closer in age to you. I LOVE your podcast, you have so many interesting women on. I had tears streaming down my face listening to Retha’s story., while driving – probably not a good thing to do – crying and driving. What a strong,, brave , godly woman. I just want to be your friend and friends with everyone on your show! You are a true blessing to everyone who listens to you. Thank you.
i would love to see you have somebody on your podcast regarding relationships with their daughter in laws. i am a mother in law to 2 amazing daughter in laws 6 plus years but sometimes hit a speed bump in the road.

I just finished listening to this podcast. My sister passed away a little over a month ago and I have been left to deal with the “cleanup” of her life. I have found out things about her that greatly upset me and have left me asking why? This podcast has impacted me tremendously in being able to forgive my sister, forgive our mother for starting my sister on the wrong path and forgive my step-father for what he did that destroyed my sister. Thank you so much for sharing.
I have been going back and listening to episodes that I missed because I was late to the party. This episode blew me away. My family is going through some stuff right now and lately I have been crying out to God “HOW LONG” and every time I ask God a question he is giving me an answer. This episode was how he answered that question for me today. I know that God is at work in our circumstances. I BELIEVE IT! Thank you to you Jamie as well as to this precious woman who shared her story which became one of my many answers to all of my many questions!
