Happy Hour #52 is with Kirsten Dickerson. Before starting Raven + Lily, Kirsten’s career was divided by her passions for social justice and fashion. She spent 15 years doing both styling work in the film industry and working alongside global non-profits. Kirsten has traveled extensively to over 30 countries, starting with her studies in Africa and then living in Estonia shortly after the Soviet Union dissolved. The day after graduating from Baylor University, she headed to India to volunteer with Mother Teresa and Compassion International. Creating this brand has allowed her to unify her passions and capitalize her experience in both the humanitarian and fashion worlds. Motivated by a belief that each person is valuable and uniquely created, Kirsten is dedicated to empowering women to discover their full potential. She is passionate about promoting social business models as a means of providing a dignified way to alleviate poverty, especially among at-risk women.
Kirsten and her filmmaker husband, Brandon, live in a “tiny house” in the country outside of Austin, Texas on Green Acres, a boutique retreat for artists, families and sojourners. They have a minimalist lifestyle, and are enthusiasts of slow food and slow fashion, and the positive impact they have on people and the planet.
She has received awards for: 2012 Classy Award: Philanthropic Business of the Year, 2013 Rising Star: Austin Fashion Week, 2014 Blazing Star from Texas Women’s Chamber of Commerce. Raven + Lily has been featured in magazines such as Marie Claire, InStyle, Lucky, and Elle.

If you are looking for a place to get away I would love to recommend Green Acres to you! As I said in the podcast I was recently out there for a concert and the property is plain lovely. I could imagine Aaron and I spending a night or two in the yurt to unwind, let our brains breath, and reconnect. There's nothing to do there except unwind. Visit their property listing on Airbnb and make a trip to the country!
