Happy Hour #40 is with my friend Shauna Niequist. Shauna is the author of Savor, Bread & Wine, Cold Tangerines, and Bittersweet, and is an enthusiastic hostess, home cook and passionate gatherer of people. Shauna’s three great loves are her family, dinner parties, and books, and she believes that vulnerable storytelling, hard laughter, and cold pizza for breakfast can cure almost anything.
On this show we talked about her books, cooking club & small group, how her family loves to travel, how she balances motherhood and work, her favorite items to have in the kitchen, and what she's working on right now.
{You can listen to the show HERE, and make sure you never miss a Happy Hour by subscribing through your favorite podcast app (ie. iTunes, Stitcher). And of course, I would love if you would share with your friends!}

Loved this podcast episode… my husband is always wanting to have people at our house.. i enjoy entertaining but sometimes get caught up in what my kids need/what i need and don’t want to reach out… the first part of this episode was super inspiring and encouraging to open our house up more and really sit and talk… loved the “staying at the table” part — this is a little difficult in our season of little preschoolers but we can certainly still have the same fellowship even if it looks slightly different — thanks for always bringing such fun, encouraging guests/topics — love when new happy hours come out!!!
I’m listening to this podcast right now, and I just had to comment about what Jamie said about Bittersweet. I’m reading Shauna’s books in reverse order, so I read Bread & Wine spring a year ago, Bittersweet last summer, and I’m reading Cold Tangerines right now. When I read Bittersweet last summer, I enjoyed it but I didn’t really get it. It was hard to read in the sense of it being about a dark, painful time. Then I went through some hard times last fall where I felt like I was the only one who felt the pain while everyone else was still happy going about their happy lives. I didn’t connect those experiences to Shauna’s book until listening to your podcast.
Jamie, I’m so glad you brought up Bittersweet and why it’s your favorite of Shauna’s. I love thinking about how God knows we are reading certain books for different season’s in our lives.
Dearest Jamie,
Please never stop podcasting. As a late discoverer to your blog and podcast I can tell you that I have enjoyed binge listening to your show even MORE than I enjoy binge watching Netflix. You are so real to the core and not afraid to share your heart to perfect strangers, who in less than an hour, become your virtual bff’s. I find myself telling others about things you talked about on the show, saying “I was talking with my friend the other day and she said…” because I really feel like ya’ll are my people. I laugh and cry listening to each guest’s stories and struggles. I can’t thank you enough for bringing this fun happy hour to us gals across the country, and always centering back to the heart of it all and the heart of Jesus. Hugs from a big fan in CT, who is now walking around with a southern drawl from so much podcast listening!! (Ps- Big hooray for this Shauna podcast- she’s my favorite author of all time!)
