Happy Hour #37 is with my friend Trisha Davis. Trisha and her husband, Justin, live in the Nashville area (for now) with their three boys. Her and her husband run REFINE US, which is a ministry they founded in 2007. RefineUs Ministries using their story of failure, loss, and transformation to guide individuals, couples, churches, pastors, pastor’s wives and church planters towards a healthy marriage and family. Trisha and Justin wrote BEYOND ORDINARY in 2012. Beyond Ordinary is a book about the heart: our heart, your heart and God’s heart for marriage. Beyond Ordinary will stretch you. It will challenge you. It will inspire you to keep going. It will ask you to pick each other up and run with grace and purpose. To leave ordinary behind as you move toward extraordinary.
On this episode of the Happy Hour Trisha and I talk about adoption and how God has moved in mutual friends of our lives, in our own lives, and how God is stirring Trisha's heart towards adoption. What life is like for a momma when her oldest son is graduating, and what it's like to allow our kids to begin to live an independent life. We discussed how they walked through life after her husband confessed to having an affair.

Can’t wait to listen to this podcast. Would love to win copy of this book.
Awesome! I hope I win!
I would love to win this book! While I’ve not walked through this particular crisis, I believe that the only way people prevent it is to be proactive. So, I would love to know more about what she learned through this heartbreaking season. Love the podcast!
Yay! Another podcast! And Trisga Davis! I’m so inspired and vitalized by your guests and you! Thank you for sharing and for choosing to happy hour with others that stretch and grow your listeners.
I love that you had a mom with older kids. I, too, have three teens – and one graduating in a few weeks. Life is different when they are older and spreading their wings in to the world. (And oh….teens and driving?? Takes your prayer life to a whole new level!!!!)
Great to hear from a mom with older kids about the challenges and rewards of letting kids grow up and see who they are going to become. I enjoyed listening to her story and would love to read the book.
At the beginning of this episode I thought, there is no way I am going to be able to relate to this interview. I am single, no kids, never had someone cheat on me.
I am now on my SECOND listen through (because, lets be honest, I had already written this one off as unrelatable in the beginning and wasnt really listening)! This is probably one of my fav episodes so far. I can relate on being a rule follower, and building true community and not a fan club around you to have iron sharpening iron, and giving me ideas of how to better love adoptive families around me.
Even when you do not walk through the same life circumstance, the message is still the same. Redemption, grace, mercy, love. All of our stories are the same and relatable on so many levels!
Can’t wait to listen and maybe win! 🙂
Thank you so much for exposing me to this amazing book!! My husband and I were full time ministry planting a church and just took a break, our marriage our kids and our faith needed strength. I thought I was the only one, but after hearing Trisha’s story . . . . I’m so encouraged and want to read the book and share it with my others pastor’s wives I know! Again, thank you for taking the time to make us stronger women. Sky
Haven’t listened yet but I have a felling this podcast will make that sink full of dishes I have go much faster. I would definitely love to add the book to my collection!
My husband and I went through a very tough couple of years with our marriage as well. I just ATE UP THIS PODCAST!!! Thank you so much! It is no longer a secret how every marriage is susceptible to an affair!
I’d love to win this book. Going on nine years of marriage, we are just starting to see some of our friends who got married around the same time struggle and divorce. It is heartbreaking. I’d love to read this couple’s story.
I loved this podcast. So real!!! If I don’t win the book I am going to buy it.
Can’t wait to read this
Great episode! As someone a) who is married and b) whose husband is planning to go into ministry, I am looking forward to checking out Trisha’s book. Also really appreciated the marriage tips y’all talked about in the episode 🙂
One of my favorites for sure. Would love to read her book!
Would love to read this book! Thanks so much.
Me and my husband Tony had the opportunity to attend Word of Life Marriage Retreat where Trisha and Justin spoke about marriage and touched on their experiences as a couple. It was refreshing knowing that another christian couple had experienced many of the same drifts and hardships in marriage but didn’t give up! We serve a gracious and loving God! Bless this book and ministry! ♡ Bless you Davis Family for being courageous and sharing your story it has helped our marriage and family! ♡ xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
I’m so happy to find this! My husband Tony and I recently attended the Word of Life Marriage Retreat where Trisha and Justin spoke about marriage. Listening to them was like reading part of our life story. God Bless this ministry and the Davis Family for being so courageous! ♡
very eager to listen to this one! Saving it for my long run tomorrow. Jamie, I love that you and your guests tackle real life stuff that impact us in the day to day! One of the things I love most about your podcasts is that I leave each one feeling NOT alone. It’s so reassuring to know others struggle too and God meets them and us right where we are! Keep ’em coming!!
This was so good, thank you for having Trisha on the show. My husband and I have been in ministry since we got married almost 7 years ago, and it’s incredible to have this resource.
Adding this book to my must read list! Thanks for your transparency!!
I would love to win a copy of this book and am so glad I was directed to your page as well, I look forward to reading more for positive ideas marriage and life as a mom.
Love your podcast Jamie! Loved this one- thanks for the giveaway!
Jamie…loved this podcast! I was driving home from work and was thrown back to when we lived across the complex from each other and then re-living the early days of your adoption process. Then…realized that Trisha was THE Trisha…that I had just finished reading her book a few months ago. I love listening every week and enjoy learning from you and your guests. 🙂
I would love to win a copy of this book. Hearing of their story has already been a blessing to our marriage.
I love all the happy hour podcasts, but this one really spoke to me. As a pastors wife and a woman who has worked ( and hopefully will work again once the kids are bigger) in ministry, I felt like I was hearing parts of my own story. Finding a balance between loving the church and resenting the time it takes my husband away from our family is hard! I am so grateful to have listened to Tricia’s wise words and be encouraged by them! I want to read her book and learn more. Thanks Jamie for blessing us all with your amazing podcasts and your gift of openness which makes all of us stronger and better people.
Sarah
