This happy hour podcast is with my friend Laura Kelley. Laura and I have never met in person, but we've been friends on the internet for a while.
Laura is so stinking sweet and one of those people that I love to see her family. She blogs about her family, her craftiness, and all in between. I have used her for many gift ideas. I love all the name pillows that she's making these days! Hello baby shower gift!
- Her family does an amazing thing during the Advent season. They call it KINDNESS ADVENT and they spend the entire month blessing others. Laura said someone encouraged her after he mom died through a grief devotional that said, “Sometimes you have no idea what to do for yourself, but you can always do for others.” That statement led her and her husband, Josh, to begin their kindness advent time each December.
- Laura's mom passed away a few years ago and she shares what that has meant for her kids as she parented them through this trial.
- Laura's reading: A Million Little Ways by Emily Freeman & Flesh by Hugh Halter
- Laura is so gracious and is giving away 3 sets of key fobs for 3 of you guys!! What a gracious friend.
I have bought these a few times as teacher gifts. They make great surprise gifts for no reason as well! You can keep one and give one away, or give them both away. You can do whatever you want with them!!
All you need to do to win is a leave a comment in the comment section and I'll draw a winner after midnight (CST) on Friday (9/12). So fun! I loved this podcast. I laughed and cried. The Kindness Advent is such a wonderful idea. Very inspiring!
Loving your podcast so much, Jamie! We are early in the adoption process and I’m finding so much encouragement as I listen to you and your girlfriends chat about all the big and small things about family life.
I haven’t listened to the podcast yet, but I just spent half an hour reading about Kindness Advent, and we will be doing this in December! Also added Pitter Patter Art to my blog feed. Thanks for the introduction to Laura!
I’ve been following Laura’s blog for over a year and actually started following your blog through hers probably 8 months ago. I enjoy reading both your blogs so much for both of your honesty, Witt and sincerity you both write with. And of course i love seeing both of your beautiful families!
Enjoyed the blog with Laura and checking out her website! I’m from just down the road in Kentucky so I thought her accent was beautiful 😉
I loved Laura on the podcast! I wanna be her friend!! ❤️
I love “A Million Little Ways”– its a great read!
Loved the podcast and love PitterPatter Art! I’ve been following Laura’s blog for a few years now and have been inspired to do the Christmas Kindness Advent for a couple years. It has been a blessing to our family and our daughter loves it! She wakes up each morning in December so excited to see what her random act of kindness will be!! 🙂
Thank you for tackling the subject of death. I am all too aware and overwhelmed. This talk was super helpful!
The kindness advent is such a cute idea, and I am totally in LOVE with those name pillows!!!!
Dear Jamie, I absolutely love your Happy Hour podcast. I listen while I’m working. It’s so encouraging to me to hear how other mom’s are juggling life and serving God in such amazing ways. Laura Kelley’s advent idea is great! I can’t wait to try it this year with my family. Thank you for allowing me to listen in each week. You’re doing a great job!! I have a guest suggestion. I had the privilege of meeting this amazing woman named Suzette Munson. You need to check out her website http://www.love41.com, all of the proceeds for the items she sells helps widows, orphans and street kids In Rwanda. She and her husband are doing some amazing things in Rwanda with Africa New Life. I know they just returned from a 6 week trip to Rwanda last week. I think you would love talking to her and your listeners will love her too!
Thank you for introducing me to Laura!
I cracked up when she mentioned her accent. I love your podcast, and as a girl living in the Philly area, all of the Southern accents make me smile. It’s so different from what I hear on a daily basis. Almost makes me want to move near “y’all.”
Ah, I love pitterpatter art! Great podcast. I must admit, I recently found your podcast and I’ve binged listened to all of them in a week and a half during my 30 min commute to work everyday. No shame. Haha. I literally love it and have told everyone and I feel like we are such great friends! A great way to relax in the car 🙂 I would love for you to interview Raechel Myers next from Shereadstruth!
Keep being awesome!
Sister in Christ,
Brooke
Love the happy kids faces! What beautiful children.
Loved this podcast, just as I’ve loved all the ones before. I discovered your podcast when you were maybe 3-4 episodes in, and I’m sad there isn’t a huge archive of them to listen to. I subscribe to about a dozen podcasts, but yours is always the first new one I listen to. Keep them coming!!
Laura is very inspiring!
Jamie, I LOVED this podcast! Laura was a great guest. I enjoyed hearing about her parenting, balancing family and work, and processing her grief after her mom’s passing. Thank you for sharing your conversation with her!
(Also, I had “binge” listened to the first 14 podcasts in a two week time span, so when I see a new one now, I get really excited!)
I have been a follower of Laura’s for several years. I am excited to be introduced to you and your podcast.
Love me some Laura Kelly!! I also have four kids and I love to read her posts about daily life. She is a rockstar at handling family, craftiness, and all that falls in between!!! A daily read for me!!!
I love reading Laura’s blog! And now I’m glad I found you 🙂
Loved this podcast!! The kindness advent things sounds awesome, I can’t wait to try a version of that with my family this year! Thanks Jamie for putting this podcast out each week and giving me something to listen to while I run and do errands!
Laura is so inspiring. She’s great!
Loved the podcast (so far – I’m about 45 minutes through.) I’m hoping to try a version of Kindness Advent this winter. Maybe even before December so I don’t get overwhelmed.
I LOVE the Kindness Advent so much!! I’ve been telling others about it and my hubby and I are planning on doing it this year.
Also, my good friend is visiting from out of town, so I took her phone, subscribed her to your podcast and told her she has to start at podcast 1 and catch up. She’ll love it.
Relistened to your podcast with Jen Hatmaker today. I wish I could be in y’alls supper club! So fun!
I LOVED THE PODCAST. I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING LAURA FOR YEARS. I PLAN TO START FOLLOWING YOU TOO NOW! GOD BLESS!
You KNOW I love your podcast and this one was particularly touching. Already perused her website for Christmas ideas for kiddos…
Loved hearing Laura live, love her blog too!
Loved this podcast, along with all your other episodes! I do have one question. What is the song you play during the intro? I love it! Keep up the great work!
I love listening to your podcast Jamie! Because of your podcast, I have become a follower of the If:Gathering (love it!) and have become the first Noonday Ambassador in Idaho! Your podcasts are inspiring, informative, and most of all – fun! You definitely have a following in Idaho. 🙂

How do you love without a microwave?!
ha! we haven’t had one in 4.5 years and honestly I don’t miss it at all. I take that back … the only time I miss it is when my coffee gets cold and I wish I could just heat up for a few seconds. We don’t have tons of left overs around here with a bigger family, and when we do we just use our oven or stove to heat them up. Not as hard as it sounds! But people are usually caught off guard that we don’t!
Can I just say that in our next fire pit fire there will be many back years of utility bills and the like. I had no idea.
Jamie, I am late to your party but loving it all the same. I listened to this episode today and it could not have been more timely. My son (brought by the miracle of adoption) is about to be 3. My sister-in-law passed away on Monday and my son’s best friend’s family lost a cousin tragically today. As parents, we are all struggling with how How to have ongoing conversations with these little ones in honest ways about death. Ways that are comforting, age appropriate, and that will help ground them in faith. Your discussion with Laura was so helpful. Thank you.
This was really inspiring! I found this podcast and I’ve been trying to listen to this podcast every day. I have so much to catch up on as I am going from the begging and I am trying to listen to almost all 400! I love, Jamie, that you have kids that are adopted because I am adopted and I am looking forward to adopting when I grow up. But This one hit me very hard! My adopted mom passed away when I was 10 and I was adopted when I was 4, I now have a stepmom as well. I have three moms which is crazy, hearing about laura and losing her mom was very sad. Sometimes I think about telling my kids someday about how my mom’s and explaining loss to my kids. Sometimes it really sucks to know that my mom won’t be on earth to get to see her grandkids in the future. You always make my day listening to you and your girlfriend’s talk. It has been awesome to have a really inspiring Christian lady to look up to. I love just listening to podcasts to hear someone talk and learn something new while I go on my day. Thank you for being so inspiring and teaching me about your life and making me laugh. I do hope you see this and if you would like. You can email me back at moserrhiannon@gmail.com. Thank you !
Hi, there! I am so happy you are enjoying the podcast! I’m glad certain episodes are bringing you comfort in your own personal experiences. All the best!
