I'm absolutely in love with anything that is girly! I find myself on ETSY about once a week just looking at cute dresses. A part of me wants to buy one in every size starting at about 18 months and the other part of me wants to buy a sewing machine and make them like my friend Alison is doing.
Today on Cool Mom Picks.com I found this site and love it! I think I'll need one of these holders for sure when Story comes home. These clippies are super cute and I would love them, but am curious about something. Any of you AA mom's out there or any mom's with AA children can you help me … would these clippies work in Story's hair? I'm new and ready to learn!
Here’s a link for you: http://www.shuruba.com/headbands.htm
These headbands are really cute!

I love the clips!
If I’m seeing the clips right, they are probably not going to work for Story. Unless you just used them as extra pretties after you pull her hair back into braids or ponytails/puffs. Brooke’s hair is just too thick for clips like this to work at all, and I assume Story’s will be the same eventually. When she was about a year old I could use something like this for a little while but they didn’t work like they do in a little white girl’s hair, you know?
Totally unrelated but had to share: Evyn just saw Amos’ picture on my blog and said “I want him come our house”…just thought you would appreciate this ;0)
i use them in norahs now…
You could totally make those dresses. I have made several and I don’t even have a girl to wear them. I bet you could make those clips too.
Well, I was the mom of AA boy with 8 inches of hair before he got his first haircut. So do I count? When I saw the clips, I was thinking that it might be cute, if you did twists and then held them back out of her face with those clips. Or just one clip to the side. I am VERY partial to twists as they can look really good for a week. I would twist Ben’s hair, leave the twists in for a few days, then untwist them for a “twist-out” look, and it would look cute for another 3-4 days. The key was to spray the twists with a mixture of 1/2 water and 1/2 olive oil. SO cute!
Oh, I love these websites! The hair clips are so cute! Thanks for sharing.
I love hair bows and clips and headbands. I was not a girly type girl at all…quite tomboyish in fact. Of course I loved pretty things but I always said I wouldn’t fuss with all this hair stuff if I ever had a daughter. All I can say is YEAH RIGHT! I’m awful. I’m constantly buying bows and stuff. I think those clips would. Until her hair is longer, you don’t want one of those types of clips where you push the buttons and it pops open. Rosa has only just starting wearing those kinds of clips because she just didn’t have enough hair yet.
This clips look like the kind that you push and they just open and you let go and they close. That is good. Go to Once Upon a Child in Murfreesboro (one of my favorite places in the world) and look at their hair bows. They have them separted by ages. You’ll see what I’m talking about. There is a big difference in infant and young toddler bows and older toddler bows. Have fun looking!!!
FYI – I bet you could make these for a lot less. You can by the clips at Wal-Mart and then hot clue cute ribbon just like they did. 🙂 Just a thought!
Thanks for the nice shout-out mama! I can tell you that the clips are not just the open-close type, but also have like this foam insert inside to help them adhere to the hair. I know that that’s a big deal for kids with fine hair like mine, but I’m not sure how they’d hold up with your daughter.
How about this…I have some sample clips from them. Why don’t you email me your address and I’ll send them to you and you’ll let us know. liz[at]coolmompicks.com

thanks!
My daughter is 6 and is biracial AA/Cauc and she has curly, fine ( but alot of it) hair and we used the headband smiliar to the shuruba.com listed above from about 1-2 years of age and it was always adorable. Now that she is getting older and has more hair the headbands don’t work as well we use the rubberband ribbons or I use rubber bands and then attach a ribbon and tie to a bow.
I learned alot of styling tips from my hubbys(AA) Mom and sisters but mostly I learned from trying different things and seeing what works best for her hair. The current products I use are Johnsons n Johnsons detangler and Silk elements silken child moisturizing creme! And this creme smells great!! So all that to comment for the clips I’d have to say maybe, you’ll have to try and see .. that is why us moms of little girls spend so much $ on hair procucts!!
Jamie,
I am the owner of Ribbies Clippies and so inspired by your website. I would love to send you free clippies. I think they will work in Story’s hair. Please email me at kim@ribbiesclippies.com so I can get your order and your address.
Thanks!!
I love the clips but I am not AA so I can’t tell you if they will work. I am sure after some rubber bands are used they could be hooked to the rubber band. But I really couldn’t say.
On another note. I saw that you read Shepherding the CHild’s Heart. I just got that book and It is pretty good so far. What did you think?? Another really good one about family that I read recently is Family Driven Faith by Voddie Baucham. Anyway just wondering what your thoughts were and if it has been working in your discipline and family life?
