One thing that our family is trying this year is to invite the kids teachers over for dinner. We want the teachers to know how much we love them, appreciate them, and to thank them for teaching our hoodlums each day! Another thing that comes out of this is that our kids get to be excited about our dinner guests and it is very special to them.
Our first teacher over was Amos' teacher, Ms. Thornton. We love Ms. Thornton and are so thankful for the way she loves Amos and is helping him catch up to grade level. He specifically wanted Aaron to make “Haiti Rice & Beans” for his teacher. When we found out her fiance was coming and he's a professional chef Aaron also threw in some amazing salmon and the best broccoli ever. It was delish.
Amos sat next to his teacher and was so happy to have her in our home. I loved every minute of it. It's great for the teachers to see our family interact and for us to get to know our teachers on a more personal level.
If you are wanting to get to know your kids teachers, why not invite them into your home for dinner. They will appreciate it, and it's great to get to know each other!
Hi Jamie! What recipe do you guys use to make your rice and beans? I have tried many, but am still looking for the perfect one! Please share! 🙂

Heather I need to have Aaron write it down for me and share it. He used to have it published on his old blog but that’s not up anymore. 🙂 I’ll work on getting it from him!
Okay … question … are your kids teachers single? I love this idea, but I’m thinking K’s teacher (who is middle-aged, married and whose single-mom daughter lives there too) might not want to do this. Am I shutting it down before I give it a chance? Maybe we just invite her whole family over?! Thoughts?
I love this idea and will save it for when we get to that age!!!
I have been reading your blog for sometime and I think this may be my first comment. I love the idea of inviting over a teacher. Such a great way to get to know who your kids are spending so much time with!
