I can't tell you how many of you have left comments or sent me emails asking for a book list from the podcast that Jen & I recently did. We both talked about books that we love and are reading now. Jen told us about a some of her favorites and I have added them all to my goodreads list (where I keep track of my books to read and books I have read) and so here they are for you:
Humor books that Jen loved:
Dad is Fat by Jim Gaffigan
Bossy Pants by Tina Fey – Jen said she's read this about 6 times and I have had this on my list forever and this will get read this summer by me!
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me  by Mindy Kaling – I have read this one and laughed through it all
David Sedaris books – I'm actually currently reading Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls and love it. I can't wait to read more from him. He writes humor essay's that are short and sweet.
Jen also loves food memoirs, which I can't say I've ever read a food memoir. Although memoirs are one of my favorite types of reads. Here are the food memoirs she mentioned:
Blood, Bones & Butter by Gabrielle Hamilton
Tender at the Bone by Ruth Reichl
Other books that we both mentioned:
Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott – I read this and highly recommend this!
The Bridget Jones books and the latest Mad About the Boy
The Alan Bradley series with the latest book: Speaking from Among the Bones
We both have read WILD this Spring and liked it. There's a movie coming out this Fall I think, so read this first.
There you go friends. That right there is a swell reading list for this summer if you are looking for one. If you have read these I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Also, what is the best book you have read this year? Tell me in the comments so I can add to my ‘to-read' list!
I don’t know if it technically counts as a food memoir, but if you haven’t read Shauna Niequist’s “Bread and Wine”, you are missing out! It is fantastic and a great summer read. I read it last summer with some girlfriends and we’d cook dinner using her recipes. So much fun.
I have got to read Bossypants this summer too. It has been on my to-read list for way too long!
Oh Emily how did I not think of that one as a food memoir. YES I’ve read it and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Love her books and this one was just glorious. 🙂 I make the blueberry crisp all the time for my family and always change up the fruit. They love it!
I noticed you mentioned that you love memoirs. You should read “The Thank You Room” by Serenity Bohon. It is a wonderful memoir of her battle with cancer (while pregnant). The writer makes you feel like you are experiencing the moments right along with her. Very good read. You can find it on Amazon at this link: http://www.amazon.com/The-Thank-You-Room-Memoir-ebook/dp/B007R8B6A6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1401463163&sr=8-1&keywords=serenity+bohon
Jennie THANK YOU i love to know about new books. I’m adding it to my goodreads list now. 🙂
Is there a way to follow you on GoodReads?
