MERRY WEEK OF CHRISTMAS! We take Christmas very seriously at the Ivey house, so I thought it'd be fun to tell you some of our quirky family traditions and things we've been loving this Christmas season!

Gifts for our Kiddos

I know how hard it can be to figure out what to get your kids year after year, so we developed a little system that works really well for us!

Here's what we get each of our kids:

  • Something they want
  • Something they need
  • Something to wear
  • Something to read

This is fun for us because they still get at least one thing they really want, but it also gives us as parents a little space for creativity for gifts we think they'd like or specific gifts they need!

Christmas Eve Jammies

We always give our kids one gift to open on Christmas Eve and it's always the same thing: Pajamas! It's just a fun little tradition and something they always look forward to.

Wrapping Paper

This is one of my favorite traditions we do – my kids pretend like they think it's lame but I know secretly they love it ha. I wrap each kid's gifts in their own wrapping paper, and then I keep a spreadsheet so I can remember whose gifts are whose – BUT no one else knows 🙂 Then on Christmas, I stick a little piece of their wrapping paper in their stocking, and they finally know which gifts are theirs!

ELF at the Alamo Drafthouse

Every single Christmas Day, we go to the Alamo Drafthouse in downtown Austin to watch Elf sing-along! This is the first year they're not showing it on Christmas Day which is so sad, BUT if you ever get a chance to go to one in the future, you absolutely should!

A Jesus Storybook Bible

Jesus Storybook Bible is the absolute best Children's Bible out there! Every single Christmas, we read the Christmas story from the Jesus Storybook Bible. It's such a special moment for our family, and we love the details that make the story so beautiful and engaging – not just for kids, but adults too!

Austin Stone Christmas Book

Austin stone has a beautiful Christmas book for Advent called Words for Winter. It is a beautiful collection of liturgies and prayers to commemorate Advent, Christmas and the new year, with all of the emotions that come along with that. It's such a beautiful piece of work and I think you will love it!

You can purchase it HERE.

There's a little bit about how us Ivey's do Christmas! It's truly our favorite time of year and such a beautiful reminder of the hope that we have through the birth of our perfect Savior. What are some of your family traditions? Let me know in the comments!
