I'm reading Atonement by Iam McEwan right now. I'm about 236 pages into and it is getting good now. I wanted to see the movie and found the book in the airport in Dallas and picked it up. I have always found that when a movie is made from a book the book is ALWAYS better so I wanted to find out for myself.
Question for you guys that are reading this …
1. Have any of you read the book? Liked it? Hated it? Thoughts.
2. Who has seen the movie? good? worth paying $8 for or wait for Netflix? Don't spoil anything for me either b/c I'm not done with the book!
I haven’t read the book, but I saw the movie recently.
I really liked it a lot.
Saw the movie-I love Keira and Mcavoy. It is extrremely good and sensual. Larry and I both walked away having thought it was worth it.
I always like the book more too!
I’ve not read the book or seen the movie, but my good friend who has seen it said to wait for the dvd release. Maybe someone else could chime in.
Glad you made it back safely!

Hate to be a rain cloud but my book club and I hated it. The best part was the retreat to Dunkirk, which could be a stand alone piece. We felt it was highly unlikely for the lovers to “consummate” their relationship in such a way. Very out of character for the woman, in a book that is very much a period piece.
Oh, I am glad you like it.

Sharla and I both loved Pride & Prejudice – the movie (same director and actress for Atonement), so went with high hopes {and yes, I’m secure enough to admit I like Jane Austen!! ; ) ). We thought the movie was pretty good…although it was not P & P.
McAvoy is a great actor….looking forward to watching “The Last King of Scotland” in the next few days!
One note, that would possibly make it worth seeing in the theatre — the cinematography is AMAZING….just like P&P(guess this is the directors trademark)….for this reason, you and Aaron may want to take it in on the big screen.
just my thoughts!!
My daughter found the movie so depressing that she came home and sold the copy of the book she had bought and started reading.
It is depressing. But I still thought it was a good film.
decent movie. acting and all the “right movie stuff” but it was depressing. i like feel good movies. i like happy endings. i didn’t like all the back and forth. something would happen, and i would think that i was just “blonde” and not getting it, and then they would say, “6 months earlier”….and you would think, “OH, I wasn’t supposed to get it!” they then went back and showed what led up to it happening so that you figured out what just went on. that happened the WHOLE movie. oh well. it’s not a bad movie or anything. did i mention that i like happy endings?
