Jessica is one of my newest friends in the past few months and she is super cool! She loves Jesus and has a heart for adoption and that makes me instantly a fan.
She brought some candy cane cookies and they were beautiful! In fact so beautiful that she won the best decorated cookie!
Candy Cane Cookies
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter
1 cup powdered sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour
1tsp salt
10 crushed peppermints or candy canes
red food dye
Mix first 5 ingredients together, then stir in the flour and salt. Divide dough in half. Add red food coloring to half of recipe. Chill for 30 minutes. Now you have endless options! You can:
1. Roll and twist the red and white dough into candy cane shapes.
2. Roll out white dough and red dough. Place white dough on top of red and slowly roll like a burrito. Cut the roll to form red and white pinwheels.
4. Blend dough together for a marbalized sugar cookie look and do candycane or star cutouts.
Bake at 360 degrees for 8 minutes. Sprinkle with peppermint mixture when done.
