WHAT YOU WILL HEAR

My guest for The Happy Hour #245 is Jasmine Star. Jasmine is a photographer and business strategist who dropped out of law school to pursue her dreams. Jasmine built an internationally recognized and award-winning photography business, and also founded Social Curator. Through Social Curator, Jasmine empowers entrepreneurs to build a brand, market it on social media, and create a life they love. Some days you’ll find her featured in Forbes, Entrepreneur, and INC magazine, but her favorite days are spent with her dog and her high-school sweetheart, eating tacos.

Jasmine and I start off the show talking about her family which of course includes some stories of her twin sister Bianca Oltoff. I was cracking up hearing the story of how they said they’d never go to the same college and the crazy way they ended up as roommates! Jasmine then opens up about her journey with depression and the importance of getting help and support. May is Mental Health Month and I am so thankful to Jasmine for sharing honestly about what it’s been like for her, and her encouragement that it is okay and necessary to talk about it. Jasmine also describes how the shift from asking “Why is this happening to me” to thinking “this is happening for me” was a game changer especially in her darkest times. In the last part of the show we talk about social media, and I loved, loved, loved her analogy of treating social media like we treat fire – we have to be intentional, aware, and careful of how we interact with it. Jasmine also gives an update about her journey to adoption including the ups and downs, the long wait, and how the bumps in the road have taught her so much.
